Calaveras County Ranch Pass Information

The Calaveras County Ranch Pass Program allows property owners/ranchers and authorized representatives (AR) to access their land during critical incidents such as wildfires, floods, earthquakes, and other emergencies to care for cattle, horses, and other livestock that depend on timely access to food, water, and safety.

The step-by-step instructions for the application and renewal process are below.

Providing complete and accurate information helps prevent delays and ensures you and your AR's receive your Ranch Passes quickly.

Please have the following information on hand for owners and AR's before starting the application or renewal process.

  • Mailing address(s) of the owner(s)
  • Email address(s) for any owner(s) and all AR's that need passes
  • Drivers License(s) and phone number(s) for any owner(s) and all AR's that need passes

Initial Applicants:

  1. Complete the Ranch Pass Application.
  2. Attend one of two in-person trainings held each year.
  • March 18, 2026, 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM
  • March 28, 2026, 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM.

Your new Ranch Pass will be mailed to you or can be picked up at the Sheriff's Office if prior arrangements are made.

Renewals:

  1. You will receive an email and/or a letter from the Sheriff's Office notifying you that your renewal is due in 90 days. 
  2. Watch the renewal training video below.
  3. Take the Ranch Pass Renewal Test and certify that you watched the video, link below.

Your new Ranch Pass will be mailed to you or can be picked up at the Sheriff's Office if prior arrangements are made.
