The Investigations Division is primarily responsible for conducting investigations of felony and some non-traffic misdemeanor cases. The investigations division lies within the Operations Bureau. Four deputies are assigned as investigators in the division: one Sergeant and three Corporals. The investigators are assigned various criminal cases, such as crimes against persons or crimes against property. Investigators are responsible for, but are not limited to, photographing, analyzing, collecting evidence, reconstructing major crime scenes, and assisting deputies and other agencies with crime scene processing. Each investigator is designated to research and serve criminal warrants and work criminal cases assigned for follow-up.
The Sheriff’s Office is committed to the multi-disciplinary approach when investigating cases of child abuse and/or neglect. Detectives work closely with the District Attorney, Child Protective Services, Victim/Witness Program, and other treatment providers.
The Calaveras County Sexual Assault Response Team (S.A.R.T.) is a coordinated, multi-agency, multi-disciplinary team that assists in the investigation of known or suspected sexual assaults. Team components include the Calaveras County Sheriff's Office, Angels Camp Police Department, the District Attorney's office, Calaveras Works and Human Services, Sexual Assault Forensic Examiners (SAFE nurses), Mark Twain Medical Center, and HRC Calaveras Crisis Center.
