Patrol Division

        

The Patrol Division is staffed by sworn deputy sheriffs and falls under the Operations Bureau. Patrol Deputies maintain order and protect life and property by enforcing local, State, or Federal laws and ordinances while performing a combination of the following duties: patrol a specific area; direct traffic; issue traffic summonses; investigate incidents and crimes; apprehend and arrest suspects; educate the public on crime prevention, or serve legal processes of the courts.

The Sheriff’s Patrol Division provides a full range of law enforcement and related emergency response services to a resident population of approximately 46,843 (U.S. Census Bureau 2011) with an expanding number of visitors, over an area of 1,037 square miles including agricultural, industrial, residential, recreational and undeveloped rural areas.

The Sheriff’s Patrol Division operates out of the headquarters located in San Andreas as well as sub-stations within the local communities throughout the county.

The Patrol Division is also responsible for supplemental law enforcement at many special events occurring in Calaveras County as well as working closely with individual community members and homeowners’ associations on crime prevention tactics and education.

In addition to their regular duties, deputies assigned to patrol also have the opportunity to apply for one of the following specialized teams below.
